Dr. Maynard Murray’s research on the use of sea minerals as an organic fertilizer in horticulture spanned more than four decades.

He found that plants grown with sea minerals fertilizer benefited in numerous ways, from increased yields and more nutritious food to healthier, pest-resistant, and stress-tolerant plants.

This particular product is called Sea-Crop. It has become one of my favourite liquid organic fertilizers, perhaps even more than the ever-present liquid kelp fertilizer.

Sea-Crop is a soil and plant stimulant containing over 80 natural source minerals and active organic substances from deep-sea Pacific Ocean water.

Many gallons of seawater are processed to produce a single gallon of Sea-Crop. Most of the sodium is removed so the salt content is not an issue.

This brand is one of the most bioactive of the sea mineral fertilizer products on the market.

The NPK numbers are insignificant at 0-0-0.1, but that’s not the point. What matters is the trace element content, and the results are remarkable. It also has ORMUS properties.

Sea Minerals Application

How much do you need? For lawns and gardens, the recommended rate is 170-340mL per 1,000 square feet. It can be applied three times a year.

The product is very concentrated and should be diluted at least 1:50 with water for soil application and 1:100 for plant/foliar treatment.

This means one liter of Sea-Crop, diluted in 50 liters of water, covers 5,000 square feet of soil. Or, four teaspoons (20mL) of Sea-Crop, diluted in one liter of water, is good for 100 sq ft.

When applied to the soil, it is best if the soil is moist before and then watered again briefly after.

To spray plants, dilute to half the strength: One liter of Sea-Crop in 100 liters of water to cover 5,000 square feet of area. Or, two teaspoons (10mL) of Sea-Crop, diluted in one liter of water, for 50 sq ft. Don’t worry too much about the square footage. Just mix two teaspoons into a liter and spray till leaves are dripping wet.

Sea-Crop can be used in a watering can, sprayer, or irrigation system. It is best applied early in the morning, while evening would be the second choice.

In order to receive maximum benefit from the sea minerals, it should be applied separately from liquid fish fertilizer.

How long does it keep? Sea-Crop is good almost indefinitely if kept out of direct sunlight, with the cap on tight, and stored at cool room temperature. Mix and use only what you want to apply the same day. Diluted mixed product does not keep long.
