Liquid kelp fertilizer contains over 70 trace minerals.

The gentle N-P-K values make this natural, whole-food, broad-spectrum fertilizer essential to plants and the soil food web.

More importantly, it is an excellent source of cytokinins and auxins, two essential plant growth hormones. It also contains vitamins, natural chelating agents, and amino acids.

Cytokinins improve soil tilth, regulate cell division and cell wall formation, increase photosynthesis and chlorophyll production, improve root and shoot growth, and delay senescence in the fall (when plants prepare for winter, dropping leaves, losing colour, etc.).

Auxins regulate cell elongation and mainly stimulate adventitious rooting, and promote fruit development.

This concentrate is one of the least expensive, most highly effective liquid fertilizer products out there. Liquid seaweed fertilizer is a staple in any foliar feed and soil management program.

It is especially useful when seeding and propagating, dividing, and transplanting. Nursery owners and growers of wheatgrass and microgreens swear by kelp.

The kelp species used in this particular product is Macrocystis integrifolia, sustainably harvested here in BC and processed quickly at cool temperatures to preserve all of the benefits seaweed has to offer. Macrocystis grows well over 100 feet long, as much as 2 feet per day.

Unlike some other kelp products, this one is made fresh from live seaweed, and is never reconstituted with water from powder.

Liquid Kelp Fertilizer Application

How much do you need?  Kelpgrow is highly concentrated and should be diluted at a rate of 1:250 with water, whether you treat soil or containers, spray leaves, or soak seeds.

Kelpgrow is amazingly effective at very small doses. All you need for lawns and gardens is 20mL (four teaspoons!) per 1,000 square feet. That’s the lowest amount of all of the liquid fertilizers I offer.

One teaspoon (4-5mL) of Kelpgrow, diluted in one liter of water, is good for 200-250 square feet. One liter, diluted in 250 liters of water, covers 50,000 sq ft — that’s more than an acre!

For foliar spraying, in the home garden and for houseplants, don’t worry too much about square footage. Just dilute and spray till leaves are dripping wet. A little goes a long way. Try to reach the underside of leaves for extra benefit.

Kelp is preferably applied in small, regular doses, such as monthly or every two weeks. It is more commonly applied directly to the plants, but soil applications are beneficial as well, especially in conjunction with Effective Microorganisms.

Apply kelp using a watering can, sprayer, or irrigation system. It is best applied early in the morning, while evening would be the second choice.

How long does it keep? Liquid kelp fertilizer is good for at least one year if kept out of direct sunlight, with the cap on tight, and stored at cool room temperature. Mix and use only what you want to apply the same day. Diluted mixed product does not keep long.
