When you study organic horticulture, you learn fairly quickly about the importance of calcium. While it is often extremely beneficial to apply some calcium to the soil, this article is just a reminder that you can apply too much, and that it should not be applied just "for good measure". I am a big proponent of using calcitic lime, but it is important to remember not to apply much without a soil test.
