Calcitic Lime Application

Calcium should be applied in spring or fall based on a soil test. Unlike conventional recommendations which often suggest very high application rates that can cause a lot of damage, we generally suggest 10-50lbs/1000 sq ft to simply begin coaxing the calcium levels in the right direction.

We are not trying to find the ideal ratios in one year, and we may never find them, but even moving towards them will bring much benefit. This particular calcium is a fine powder that can be applied with a shovel or drop spreader, or even better, mixed in with compost. Best applied on a calm day.
